Hi guys!!! Today I thought I’d go through my makeup and share the best of the best in every category of eye makeup. I do have a 2017 favorites post where I list a couple of my eye makeup favorites, but here I’m sharing more per category and other products I’ve been using looooong before 2017!!!
All of the product links in this post are clickable if you want more information!! I’m sure you can tell that many of these products are well loved and have lived in my makeup bag for a while. Be sure to leave me a comment down below with some of your favorite eye makeup products! Let’s get started.
Cream Shadows and Primers
I’m a firm believer in priming your eyes before applying eye shadow. It really makes your eyeshadow stay on for SO much longer and look more vibrant. I also loooove cream shadows, they’re so quick and easy when you wear them on their own, but also make your shimmery shadows that much more pigmented!!
MAC’s Painterly Paint Pot is a product I’ve talked about multiple times on here!! But in short, I use this as a base for all my eye shadows. I also wear it on its own just to get rid of any veins or oil on my eyelids. MAC also has another Paint Pot in the shade Bare Study that’s another favorite of mine. It’s a shimmery champagne shade, and it looks really cool on its own!! It also has the same staying power as the Painterly one, so I can just quickly apply this with my fingers to my eyelids if I’m in a rush.
A couple years ago I randomly splurged on this Chanel Emerveille cream shadow, and I’ve loved it ever since!! The color is more of a shimmery rose gold with a really cool cushion-like texture, making it really easy to apply. It works really well on it’s own, but also works well with a champagne or rose gold eye shadow on top. I also apply this one with my fingers, making it really quick!!
If I’m doing an everyday eyeshadow look, or even going out somewhere fancy, I always tend to use shimmery lighter eye shadows rather than creating dramatic smokey eye or darker looks. Partially because I’m really not good at eye shadow, and also because I just feel like just a little shimmer can help brighten your whole look!!!
Everybody who knows a thing or two about makeup has heard of allllll the variations of this Urban Decay Naked Palette, but my favorite is the original. I think this palette has the most warm toned shades that appeal to my style of eyeshadow looks. The quality and pigmentation of these shadows is so great, and I like having options to do darker more dramatic looks if I’m feelin’ fancy. My hands down favorite shade in this though is the light pink shimmery “sin” shade!!!
Another option for me when I want to go a little more bold is using my mini Lorac Pro Palette. The middle shade, “pewter”, is a really cool and pigmented shimmery taupe that blends really well in the outer corners with a champagne colored lid shade. It’s a really cool combo!!!
I found this NARS Alahambra Eye Shadow Duo a little while ago, and it’s definitely my most reached for eye shadows. It’s right up my alley, just two really shimmery and pigmented shades: one more pinky, and the other one on the gold spectrum. I love mixing these two together and putting it on my lid, or using each on their own, or if I’m feeling fancy, I’ll use the pink one on the inner corners and the gold on the outside. Even though there’s only two colors, I’ve been able to make a bunch of different looks with it!
A really easy way to get more definition in your crease and more color in your eyeshadow look that I’ve discovered is bronzer. Lately, I’ve been taking my favorite bronzer, Benefit’s Hoola, on a fluffy crease brush and blending it in. It isn’t as harsh as a dark brown eyeshadow, and looks really cohesive with any contour or an all over bronzed look!!
I’ve found I’m not particularly good at doing eyeliner, so I need to use products that are suuuuuper creamy to make my job a little bit easier. My favorite black eyeliner comes from Maybelline. It’s really creamy, but also really easy to smudge with a smaller brush in case you mess up and need to correct your line.
I love my brown eyeliner from Urban Decay in the shade Bourbon. These pencils are insanely creamy and pigmented, so even if you stink at eyeliner like me you can still get a good and thin line!!! I really want to try this one out in different colors. Brown eyeliner is always a good way to go if you want something less harsh than black!!!
Another good tip that creates the illusion of eyeliner that I’ve been sticking to lately is taking a little bit of any black eyeshadow on a super small eyeliner brush. I’ll take it and gently tap it on the outer portion of my upper lash line as thin as possible. This helps make your eyelashes look more full without going through the hassle of eyeliner!!!
Mascara is definitely my favorite makeup product!!! If I’m not wearing anything else, I know that no matter what, mascara can make me look more awake and alive!! I’ve tried SO many different ones, and these are some of the best!! I wanted to include a high end and drugstore favorite in this post for y’all.
On the high end spectrum, my usual go to is the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara. It works really well, and makes your lashes instantly full of volume and length in just a couple strokes! I use the non-waterproof for day to day use, but I also have the waterproof for when I’m on vacation or going to be going in water somehow!!! The waterproof stays forever though, so be ready with some good makeup remover to take it off!!
The L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara is the best drugstore mascara that I’ve found. It’s a dupe for the Too Faced one, and it gives a really similar look. I think that the only difference is that it takes a couple extra run throughs of this L’Oreal one to get the same effect. The price tag is SO much more appealing, and it’s the one I’m reaching for the most right now!!
So there you have it! The best of the best eye makeup products. These are all tried and true, and are all worth the investment! I’d love to make this a series, with my next posts about face and lip products, maybe.
What’s your must-have eye makeup product?? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for stopping by!!
